The San Mateo Bearcats found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to the Capuchino Mustangs on Friday. San Mateo sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-27 victory over Milpitas.
Emmanuel Fitzgerald went supernova for San Mateo, rushing for 171 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Gabe Buenrostro, who rushed for 92 yards on only five carries.
San Mateo's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Nalesoni Fakava and his two sacks.
San Mateo's victory bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Milpitas, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.
San Mateo will head out on the road to face off against Sequoia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Sequoia is ranked 514th, while San Mateo is ranked 519th). As for Milpitas, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Terra Nova at 7:00 p.m. Terra Nova is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
