There's no place like home for the Riverside-Durham Pirates, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 55-46 win over East Chapel Hill on Tuesday. Given Riverside-Durham's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while East Chapel Hill is ranked 343rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverside-Durham got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Corey Hairston Jr. out in front who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Sneed, who scored nine points along with three steals and three blocks.
Riverside-Durham's victory bumped their record up to 12-6. As for East Chapel Hill, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside-Durham will square off against Northern Durham at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Northern Durham and Riverside-Durham are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. East Chapel Hill won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cedar Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Cedar Ridge is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
