Baseball Recap: Chinle Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

After losing to Payson the last time they met, Chinle decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 11-2 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Kennon Sorrell and Hage Tsosie made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Sorrell pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Tsosie tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sorrell went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Tsosie scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most RBI Sorrell has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Duane Ayze was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Chinle's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

Chinle lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Chinle is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Payson, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8.

Chinle didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-5 defeat against Combs on the 11th. As for Payson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 6-1 win against St. Johns on the 11th.
