Basketball Game Preview: Santana Sultans vs. Escondido Charter Tigers

The Santana Sultans will take on the Escondido Charter Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Santana is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 69-17 victory over San Ysidro. Winning may never get old, but the Sultans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Santana found their leader in freshman Sam Mora, who posted 23 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mora has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chopee Shiro, who had nine points and three steals.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Escondido Charter on Thursday. Everything went their way against Tri-City Christian as Escondido Charter made off with a 49-24 win. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Escondido Charter's win came from a few key players Santana will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Noelle ChampagNe, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten steals. Those ten steals gave her a new career-high. Harper Mowrey was another key player, going 6 of 11 on her way to 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Santana has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.8 points per game. As for Escondido Charter, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.

Santana was able to grind out a solid victory over Escondido Charter in their previous matchup back in May of 2021, winning 38-30. Does Santana have another victory up their sleeve, or will Escondido Charter turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
