The Puckett Wolves will challenge the Pisgah Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Puckett comes in on nine and Pisgah on six.
Puckett is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Loyd Star 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since April 12th.
Lila Murphy made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Murphy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Raegan Hardin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Puckett hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loyd Star struck out six times.
Meanwhile, while Pisgah put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Mize. The Dragons put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-0 win. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Ally Young, who gave up just three hits to keep Mize off the board. Young has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alex Holeman was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie McCurdy, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Puckett's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-7-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Pisgah, their victory bumped their record up to 24-8.
Both Puckett and Pisgah just can't seem to miss. The Wolves have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Puckett came out on top in a nail-biter against Pisgah when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
