The Brookville Blue Devils will challenge the Eaton Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Brookville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past West Carrollton 14-1 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Devils.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Eaton made sure to put some runs up on the board against Dixie on Saturday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Greyhounds. That 13-run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.
Haydn Scott made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Colt Hendrickson and Chase Overholtz did most of the damage at the plate: Hendrickson went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Overholtz went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Hendrickson is becoming a predictor of Eaton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't). Landon Knobloch was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Eaton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.
Eaton's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Brookville, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Brookville was able to grind out a solid victory over Eaton in their previous meeting on Friday, winning 6-1. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
