Wellington-Napoleon and Concordia are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Fighting Orioles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wellington-Napoleon took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over St. Paul Lutheran. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Meanwhile, Concordia won against Northwest last Thursday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Fighting Orioles' pitcher stepped up to hand Cole Camp a 14-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Fighting Orioles, who have now won four games in a row.
Olivia Hemme was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Concordia let Aubrey Roepe and Karleigh Wilckens run wild. Roepe went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Wilckens went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Wilckens has posted since back in April of 2024. Emily Wilkens was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Concordia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Concordia's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wellington-Napoleon, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Wellington-Napoleon might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Concordia in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
