MADISON, Miss. - After five lead changes,
Pearl (Miss.) took the lead for good when
Jordan Wright ran for a touchdown with 1:00 left in the second quarter and held on to beat Germantown (Madison, Miss.) 54-24 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Wright in the second quarter, the Pirates led 21-17 at the half.
Pearl grew its lead to 30 points entering the fourth quarter. PHS scored four times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Wright.
Wright was the top performer for the Pirates. The junior running back ran for four touchdowns. He has now scored 21 touchdowns on the season.
The Mavericks came in allowing just 15.3 points per game this season. Germantown struggled against Pearl's offense, which entered the game scoring 34.0 points per game.
The loss was the third in a row for GHS.
Germantown (4-3) will play a 5A Region 2 game against Neshoba Central next week, while Pearl (7-1) will take on Lanier also in a 5A Region 2 game.
