The Burlington School Spartans and the Durham Academy Cavaliers will compete for holiday cheer at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in The Burlington School's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
The Burlington School took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Geren Holmes had another great game (as he tends to do), going 11-for-15 to rack up 25 points. He has become a key player for The Burlington School: the team is 7-3 when he posts at least 15 points, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Johnson, who posted 11 points along with six assists and five steals.
The Burlington School was working as a unit and finished the game with 28 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Durham Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 64-49 bruising from Rabun Gap-Nacoochee. The matchup marked the Cavaliers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
The Burlington School will need to focus on slowing down Rem Frasher, one of several Durham Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He had 12 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Malcolm McNeill, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.
The Burlington School pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.9 points over those games.
