Dr. Phillips is 8-2 against Freedom since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Dr. Phillips will be playing in front of their home fans against Freedom at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Phillips is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.5 runs per game this season.
Dr. Phillips had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Cypress Creek put an end to it on Tuesday. Dr. Phillips came up short against Cypress Creek, falling 7-1. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Dr. Phillips saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liana Grosch, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Freedom). They put the hurt on Wekiva with a sharp 17-7 win two weeks ago. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Allison Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 14 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Freedom got a massive performance out of Kaylin Braasch, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave Braasch a new career-high. Gemma Bartlinski was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
Freedom always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wekiva only posted an OBP of .406.
Freedom's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Dr. Phillips, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-2.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dr. Phillips hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .431. However, it's not like Freedom struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Dr. Phillips' way against Freedom when the teams last played on March 4th, as Dr. Phillips made off with a 17-0 win. Will Dr. Phillips repeat their success, or does Freedom has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
