Walled Lake Western hasn't had much luck against South Lyon East recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Warriors are taking a road trip to square off against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Walled Lake Western turned things around against Detroit Country Day on Saturday. They came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 7-2.
Audrianna Thorsell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Walled Lake Western got a massive performance out of Sierra Geisler, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Izamar Oberholtzer also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Walled Lake Western lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, South Lyon East was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out Detroit Country Day 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
South Lyon East also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Paulina Ankawi (2025) gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. Ankawi (2025) has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Meredith Mullan (2025), who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Sierra Przysiecki (2027) was another key player, earning three runs and two stolen bases.
Walled Lake Western's record is now 6-12. As for South Lyon East, their record now sits at 11-14.
Walled Lake Western suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to South Lyon East in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
