Northridge Academy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Bell Eagles 15-1 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Pumas, who have now won 17 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Alondra Laguna was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackie Nettles, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Jessica Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Northridge Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Northridge Academy is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.5 runs over those games. As for Bell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
As of now, neither Northridge Academy nor Bell have any future games scheduled.
