Basketball Game Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. West Stokes Wildcats

Surry Central and West Stokes are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Surry Central Golden Eagles will be playing at home against the West Stokes Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Surry Central will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Friday, Surry Central was able to grind out a solid victory over West Wilkes, taking the game 53-44. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Blackhawks are ranked 385th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Surry Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Stella Wall out in front who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. Those 15 points gave Wall a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Presley Smith, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 14 points in addition to five assists and five steals.

Surry Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Stokes). They breezed by Walkertown to the tune of 69-23 on Friday. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Wildcats had established a 34 point advantage.

Surry Central's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for West Stokes, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-3.

Everything came up roses for Surry Central against West Stokes when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as the squad secured a 48-10 victory. In that game, Surry Central amassed a halftime lead of 24-2, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
