The Canistota Hawks were the 44-33 winner over the Gayville-Volin Raiders when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Canistota fell 45-38 to Gayville-Volin on Thursday.
Gayville-Volin found their leader in underclassman Maia Achen, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. Achen hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Hoxeng, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Canistota now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Gayville-Volin, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canistota will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Platte/Geddes at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Gayville-Volin will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Bon Homme at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Bon Homme is ranked 78th, while Gayville-Volin is ranked 72nd).
