Two dominant signal callers in DJ Davis and Kaleb Pone are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The West Craven Eagles will look to defend their home field on Friday against the North Johnston Panthers at 7:00 p.m. West Craven will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
West Craven had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 30-point drubbing they dealt Washington last Friday. The Eagles took their contest with ease, bagging a 36-6 win over the Pam Pack. The matchup marked the Eagles' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Xavier Cuthbertson had another great game (as he tends to do), picking up 64 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 53 yards and one TD on only six carries. He didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble, made two total tackles, and defended two passes.
West Craven's run defense was locked in: Washington could only muster two yards per carry. While five picked up at least two total tackles, Davis stood above the rest. He rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 73 yards and one TD. West Craven's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.43 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 7.37 on average over their last five games.
West Craven's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 6.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Emmanuel Miller, Akio Hamilton, and Kadyn Seamster, who each picked up one sack apiece. Miller was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for North Johnston, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 win over Washington on Friday.
North Johnston's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-3. As for West Craven, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. West Craven has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North Johnston struggles in that department as they've been averaging 229.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
