Basketball Game Preview: Desert View Jaguars vs. Douglas Bulldogs

Desert View is 0-6 against Douglas since January of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Desert View Jaguars will venture away from home to challenge the Douglas Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m.

Desert View is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Thursday. They were dealt an 86-32 loss at the hands of Pueblo. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Warriors are ranked 32nd).

Despite the defeat, Desert View got top-tier performance from Solana Celaya, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Celaya a new career-high. Addison Brown was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Douglas hadn't done well against Rio Rico recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Everything went Douglas' way against Rio Rico as Douglas made off with a 68-45 victory. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 23 points or more this season.

Douglas' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28 points. As for Desert View, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

Desert View took a serious blow against Douglas in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, falling 60-8. Thankfully for Desert View, Karolina Padilla (who posted 18 points and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
