The M.L. King Lions's eight-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They escaped with a win against Tucker by the margin of a single free throw, 48-47. The win was just what M.L. King needed coming off of a 83-43 loss in their prior game.
M.L. King's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aubriana Kirkland, who scored 18 points along with six steals and three blocks. Kirkland has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Alika Daugherty was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight steals.
Tucker lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaymee Carter, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Ka'nya Hairston, who scored 13 points.
M.L. King's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-14. As for Tucker, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. M.L. King will take on Lithonia at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Lithonia is ranked 477th, while M.L. King is ranked 460th). As for Tucker, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Arabia Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Arabia Mountain will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
