Edgewood is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Lakeside a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Edgewood Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Lakeside Dragons at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
If Edgewood beats Lakeside with 49 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Warriors took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-7 win over Jefferson Area. Considering the Warriors have won four matchups by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Edgewood relied on the efforts of Jaiven Pope, who rushed for 197 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and JJ Dufour, who threw for 142 yards and five TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes. Dufour has become a key player for the Warriors: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise. Dezarion Triplin was Dufour's top target, picking up 23 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while also punching in one rushing score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Edgewood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Meanwhile, Lakeside scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They and Conneaut were almost perfectly matched up, but the Dragons suffered a 50-49 loss.
Despite the defeat, Lakeside saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jj Murphy threw for 314 yards and five TDs. The Dragons' leading receiver Matthew Wagner was Murphy's top target yet again, picking up 171 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Even if they lost, Lakeside's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Christopher McEachin, Zion Thomas, and Tristan Westerfield, who each picked up one sack apiece. Jorge Diaz got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Edgewood now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Lakeside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dufour and Murphy. Dufour just won't slow down this season and has thrown 22 touchdowns while averaging 196.4 passing yards per game. Murphy has been a dominant force too and has thrown 26 touchdowns while averaging 255.7 passing yards per game.
Edgewood ended up a good deal behind Lakeside in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, losing 36-18. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
