After a string of five wins, the Southwestern Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They lost to Sevier County on the road by a decisive 60-46 margin. While losing is never fun, Southwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 38th in Kentucky, while Sevier County is ranked fifth in Tennessee).
When it comes to explaining why Southwestern lost, one person who can't be blamed is Payton Acey. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Molden, who scored nine points.
Southwestern's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Sevier County, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 18-2.
Southwestern and Knox Central will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Sevier County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Morristown-Hamblen East at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
