Mackinac Island is 1-9 against Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mackinac Island Lakers will head out on the road to challenge Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter at 5:00 p.m. Mackinac Island is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, it was close, but Mackinac Island sidestepped Mid Peninsula for a 37-34 victory. The team accrued 28 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mackinac Island to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lakelyn Bunker, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Bunker hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Rickley, who scored six points along with six assists and six steals.
Meanwhile, sadly, Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter is still looking for their first win of the season after four games. They were the victim of a rough 53-28 defeat at the hands of Nah Tah Wahsh on Friday.
Mackinac Island has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. As for Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Mackinac Island couldn't quite finish off Bay Mills Ojibwe Charter in their previous matchup back in January of 2022 and fell 27-25. Can Mackinac Island avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
