4A District 2 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Douglass's Chavez Wyatt rumbled for the longest rushing play in 4A District 2 this season in his game against Santa Fe South last week. Wyatt scampered for 88 yards on the play and finished with 155 on the day as his team defeated the Saints.
Ada extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Glenpool, 48-7. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Douglass' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aaron McKinney threw for 21 and one touchdown and Anthony Williams had 99 yards receiving. On the ground Christopher High chipped in 174 yards. Deondre Clark helped Douglass' passing attack out by catching one ball for 21 yards.
Dylan Higgins made the biggest impact on defense this week as McLoud beat Mannford. The 6-foot-0 senior racked up one sack.
Joseph Wood provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Redskins topped the Pirates. He completed nine passes for 126 yards and also ran for 55 yards. Wood's favorite target this week was Will Olds, who caught three passes for 78 yards.
McLoud's Wood and Zaylon Mahtapene have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wood has thrown for 968 yards this season, while Mahtapene, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 23 catches for 404 yards. Willis Alexander's team's High leads the league in rushing yards with 940.
The Trojans' High is a mere 60 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in 4A District 2 this week will be when Douglass takes on the Redskins. At the moment, the Trojans are in third, while McLoud is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Douglass and the Redskins face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Trojans comes in having scored 220 this season, while McLoud has scored 207. Douglass scored 61 points last week as it defeated Santa Fe South.
Mannford moved up to 136 from 173 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Eddy Scott's team was able to make the jump by losing to the Redskins 7-3.
