The Wendell Trojans and the Marsing Huskies will round out the year against one another at at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Wendell was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 51-46 to Declo. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Hornets are ranked eighth).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jarrett Borges, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Jasper, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Marsing scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 91-81 to Weiser. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (62), the Huskies still had to take the loss.
Like Marsing, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Juan Ponce led the charge by putting up 32 points. Ponce's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Kinney, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Marsing smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.
Marsing has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Wendell, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.
Wendell came up short against Marsing in their previous matchup on December 6th, falling 67-61. Will Wendell have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
