Softball Recap: Covington Has No Trouble Against Riverside

Covington lost to Riverside back in May of 2025, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Buccaneers put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 14-3 win. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Whitney Burns made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Covington got a massive performance out of Kylie Palsgrove, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Palsgrove has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Jayda McClure was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Covington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in six consecutive games.

Covington's record is now 10-2. As for Riverside, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Covington will take on Milton-Union at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.64 runs per game on average), something the Buccaneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Riverside, they will square off against Lehman Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
