The Pine Grove Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Wheeler Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pine Grove has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kossuth hit Pine Grove with a four-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers came up short against the Aggies, falling 13-5. The Panthers have struggled against the Aggies recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Anaston Christian made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Kaylee Crawley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wheeler). Everything went their way against Falkner on Tuesday as they made off with a 20-3 win. The victory continues a trend for Wheeler in their matchups with Falkner: they've now won five in a row.
Marli Kate Shockley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Shockley was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Wheeler got a massive performance out of Savannah Hancock, who went 2-for-5 with seven RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those seven RBI gave Hancock a new career-high. Kinsley Williams also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Wheeler kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Wheeler's record is now 11-8. As for Pine Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13.
Pine Grove came up short against Wheeler when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 6-3. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
