The Dawson School Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Estes Park Bobcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Dawson School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Dawson School was able to grind out a solid win over SkyView Academy, taking the game 10-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Shelton Johnson was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Dawson Kusel was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
Meanwhile, Estes Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Lyons. Surprisingly, this marked the Bobcats' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Noah Webster and Caleb Sumner put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Webster didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Sumner pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one). At the plate, Webster went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Sumner went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Drake Kearney made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
Dawson School's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Estes Park, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dawson School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Estes Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dawson School skirted past Estes Park 4-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
