Baseball Game Preview: Pinnacle Pioneers vs. Sunnyside Blue Devils

The Pinnacle Pioneers will challenge the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Pinnacle is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Perry just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pumas.

Sam Green made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. Pinnacle is 6-2 when Green posts two or more runs, but 7-10-1 otherwise. Cole Hirsch also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Sunnyside waltzed into their game on Monday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 7-2.

ALFREDO ENCINAS made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, MICHEL MUNIZ and EMRICK THOMPSON did most of the damage at the plate: MUNIZ went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while THOMPSON got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Sunnyside's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pinnacle, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-12-1.
