Crestwood extended the longest winning streak in Wyoming Valley 3A this week by beating Tunkhannock, 27-20. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Pittston moved up to 254 from 296 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Patriots climbed the ranks as a result of a 26-21 win over Hazleton.
Pittston's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. James Emmett threw for 90 and two touchdowns and Joe Starinsky had 80 yards receiving. On the ground Marc Romanczuk chipped in 105 yards. Mike Chisdock helped Pittston's passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
Mike Barrett's team's Emmett and Starinsky have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Emmett has thrown for 427 yards this season, while Starinsky, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 13 catches for 238 yards. James M. Coughlin's Zac Evans leads the league in rushing yards with 681.
A big matchup in Wyoming Valley 3A this week will be when Berwick takes on the Tigers. As it stands, the Bulldogs are in second, while Tunkhannock is in sixth.
The Patriots and the Cougars played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Patriots eventually emerging with a 26-21 victory. Emmett in the win.
