Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gowanda). Everything went their way against the Brocton Bulldogs on Friday as they made off with a 17-8 win. Considering the Panthers have won three games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Gracie Eddy and Addison Kota made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Eddy struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Kota pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Eddy went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Kota got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and four runs.
In other batting news, Gowanda got a massive performance out of Bella Maines, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Maines a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia Bobseine, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.
Gowanda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Gowanda has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Brocton, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.
