The Gilmour Academy Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the South Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gilmour Academy will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
On Wednesday, Gilmour Academy got the win against St. Joseph Academy by a conclusive 13-3. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.
Camden Dreiling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Molly McCrone was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Ava Gundling also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Gilmour Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Joseph Academy only posted a batting average of .238.
Meanwhile, South didn't have quite enough to beat Chardon on Wednesday and fell 9-7. The Rebels haven't had much luck with the Hilltoppers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Summer Bliss (Lake Erie College) was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Paige Janson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Gilmour Academy's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.5 runs this season. As for South, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Gilmour Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against South in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 11-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
