The Canyon View Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Horizon Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Sunrise Mountain scored an imposing 31 points on Friday, Canyon View still came out on top. Canyon View snuck past Sunrise Mountain with a 37-31 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Canyon View.
Beau Devens was his usual excellent self, throwing for 420 yards and five touchdowns. Santino Varvel also helped out as he racked up 117 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Canyon View's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Gavin Levin was especially locked on to Sunrise Mountain's QB and sacked him three times.
Meanwhile, Horizon faced American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Horizon was the clear victor by a 51-27 margin over American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North. Considering Horizon has won seven matchups by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jase Ashley was a one-man wrecking crew for Horizon as he rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 87 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Bodie Zamorano and his 106 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Horizon's victory.
Canyon View's victory bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Horizon, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
