The Hialeah Thoroughbreds will head out on the road to face off against the Mourning Sharks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hialeah is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Hialeah pushed their score all the way to 70 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 93-70 defeat at the hands of Palmetto. While losing is never fun, Hialeah can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while Palmetto is ranked 117th).
Meanwhile, Mourning scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Goleman by a score of 75-63. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Mourning has managed all season.
Mourning's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Junior Decarde, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Decarde has scored all season. Alan Gomez was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Hialeah dropped their record down to 8-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Mourning, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
Everything came up roses for Hialeah against Mourning when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 62-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hialeah since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
