Baseball Recap: Canyon View Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Canyon View had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Monday. They never let the Yuma Criminals get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Cason Hagerman, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Yuma off the board. Hagerman has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Canyon View let Ethan Santoyo and Rolando Valles run wild. Santoyo scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Valles went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Valles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Berlan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Canyon View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yuma struck out nine times.

Canyon View pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Yuma, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-5-1.

Coming up, Canyon View will be playing in front of their home fans against Campo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Coyotes will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Jaguars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Yuma, they will head out on the road to face off against Dysart at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Criminals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Demons have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
