Lee is 0-8 against Nederland since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Ganders will face off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Lee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Lee is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Port Arthur Memorial with a sharp 24-4 win on Friday. The Ganders haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Ashley Gonzalez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two). Madison Ross also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .756. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Port Neches-Groves typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Nederland proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Indians 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since February 9th.
Morgan Barron spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nederland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emmy Chambless, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Another was Saydee Montoya, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Lee's record now sits at 9-16. As for Nederland, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Nederland struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lee suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Nederland in their previous meeting on March 6th. Can the Ganders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
