The Wellsville Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Toronto Red Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wellsville is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Even though Wellsville has not done well against East Palestine recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Wellsville skirted past East Palestine 36-34. The victory was just what Wellsville needed coming off of a 48-15 defeat in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Toronto's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Buckeye Local at home by a decisive 56-37 margin. Toronto has struggled against Buckeye Local recently, as their game on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The losing side was boosted by Ashton Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 25 rebounds. The contest was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Tatum Derrington was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Wellsville's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Toronto, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Everything came up roses for Wellsville against Toronto when the teams last played back in November as the team secured a 53-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wellsville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
