Even though the Morning Star Academy Mustangs have not done well against the Quad Cities Christian Eagles recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Morning Star Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Quad Cities Christian 43-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Morning Star Academy has posted yet this season.
Gavin Trotter was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Eli Hughes was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cobie Becker-Paradiso, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeke Agbezouhlon, who scored eight points along with five steals and four blocks.
Quad Cities Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Morning Star Academy racked up 11 assists.
The win (which was Morning Star Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 9-7. As for Quad Cities Christian, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morning Star Academy will take on Faith Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Quad Cities Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Unity Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Unity Christian is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
