Genoa Area hasn't had much luck against Oak Harbor recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Comets will welcome the Rockets at 4:30 p.m. Genoa Area has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Genoa Area is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Saturday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-12 heartbreaker at the hands of Van Buren. While the Comets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Black Knights 11-0 in the first period.
Emersen Bickel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Rilee Popovich, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Oak Harbor had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Redskins an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Morgan Lalonde, who gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Port Clinton off the board. With that strong performance, Lalonde is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
At the plate, Tatum Baumgartner was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Haylee Robinson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Oak Harbor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Oak Harbor pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Genoa Area, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
