The Burlington Cougars had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They walked away with a 62-54 victory over Byers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Burlington also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Burlington's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keziah Williams, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Daniel Chacon was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chase Long, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Long continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cameron Eastwood, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
Burlington is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. As for Byers, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Burlington and the Cowboys will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Goodland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Byers, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evangel Christian Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
