Conrad had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 7-12 to make it four. They lost 13-4 to the Carter Cowboys. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cowboys this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 on Tuesday.
Conrad saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edgar Chourio, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Willians Perez was another, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As for Carter, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-13-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.
On Carter's side, Asa Lewis and Anthony Cabrera made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Lewis struck out 14 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Cabrera tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave Lewis a new career-high. At bat, Lewis went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Cabrera went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Carter is undefeated when Lewis posts three or more RBI, but 10-13-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Sean Armster and Terence Taylor did most of the damage at the plate: Armster got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Taylor went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Armster is becoming a predictor of Carter's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 9-11-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Smith, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Conrad will take on North Dallas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Carter has already played their next matchup (against Trinity Leadership), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
