The Lone Peak Knights will take on the American Fork Cavemen at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Lone Peak is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Lone Peak easily dispatched Corner Canyon on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Knights fell just short of Skyridge by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since April 15, 2025.
Maggie Nelson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when American Fork and Corner Canyon meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Cavemen blew past the Chargers 17-1. The Cavemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Mazie Walters was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, American Fork got a massive performance out of Sydney Adamson, who went 3-for-5 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Adamson a new career-high. Lacie Fleming was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
American Fork always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corner Canyon only posted an OBP of .111.
Lone Peak's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-11. As for American Fork, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-15 record.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Lone Peak hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like American Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lone Peak beat American Fork 17-12 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Cavemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
