Wellington has gone a perfect 3-0 against Centennial recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Wolverines will welcome the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wellington comes in on six and Centennial on three.
Wellington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Vero Beach get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Wolverines have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Tori Payne made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Payne was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kaylee Riles was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddie Touchet, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wellington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vero Beach only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Centennial posted their closest win since March 29th on Thursday. They skirted past Palm Beach Central 2-1.
Hailey Brereton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Centennial saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Coblentz, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Wellington's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their victory bumped their record up to 16-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wellington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wellington took their win against Centennial in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
