Basketball Game Preview: Hayfork Timberjacks vs. South Fork Cubs

The Hayfork Timberjacks will take on the South Fork Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hayfork knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully South Fork likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Hayfork didn't have too much trouble with Tulelake as they won 77-58. Given the Timberjacks' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 579th, while the Honkers are ranked 1244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Levi Cavalli continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 28 points along with eight boards and six steals. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatem Wiley, who posted 15 points and five steals.

Hayfork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, South Fork was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 63-59 to Hoopa Valley. The Cubs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hayfork is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.2 points. As for South Fork, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Hayfork suffered a grim 63-41 defeat to South Fork when the teams last played back in December of 2021. Can Hayfork avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
