Baseball Recap: Trinity Finds Home Field Redemption Against Caverna

There's no place like home for Trinity, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Caverna Colonels on Friday as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Colonels: they've now won seven in a row.

Grant Howard made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Trinity is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Howard was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Kayin Howard and Brennan Merritt did most of the damage at the plate: Kayin got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Merritt earned two runs and three stolen bases. Merritt is becoming a predictor of Trinity's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 8-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Wade Burch, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Trinity always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Trinity now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Caverna, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-19.

Trinity didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-3 loss against Webster County on the 4th. As for Caverna, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 17-2 defeat against Allen County-Scottsville on the 2nd.
