The Perrydale Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Colton Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Perrydale's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
Perrydale lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Country Christian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 20-10 margin over the Cougars on Tuesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Sophie Jackson was incredible, going a perfect 6-for-6 with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Brooklynn Barcroft also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Perrydale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .761. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Salem Academy hit Colton with a five-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crusaders. The Vikings have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Katelynn Kimsey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lylah Morgan, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Perrydale's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Colton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Perrydale has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .612. However, it's not like Colton struggles in that department as they've averaged .518. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Perrydale took their victory against Colton in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 20-10 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
