The Ponce De Leon Pirates are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on the Malone Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Ponce De Leon is leaving town to face Malone after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Pirates came up short against Wewahitchka on Monday, falling 15-2. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it four in a row.
Ponce De Leon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was L Yates, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Malone made sure to put some runs up on the board against Gadsden County on Thursday. The Tigers blew past the Jaguars 25-1. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Trenton Jordan and Ben Proctor made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jordan pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Proctor tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. At the plate, Jordan got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Proctor got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Christian Morales was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kris Smith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Ponce De Leon was able to grind out a solid victory over Malone in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
