The Cabrillo Conquistadores lost against the Morro Bay Pirates back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Cabrillo was the victim of a rough 43-21 defeat at the hands of Morro Bay. Cabrillo has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Cabrillo still got an impressive performance from Gage Mattis, who threw for 389 yards and a touchdown, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Mattis is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Briscoe, who gained 153 total yards.
Nami Hoag was on fire for Morro Bay: he rushed for 241 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Caleb Calhoun made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Cabrillo's defeat was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.3 points per game. As for Morro Bay, their victory bumped their record up to 5-5.
Cabrillo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Morro Bay will look to defend their home field on Friday against East Bakersfield at 7:00 p.m. East Bakersfield is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
