Lake Cormorant hasn't had much luck against Lafayette recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Lake Cormorant will welcome Lafayette at 12:00 p.m. Lake Cormorant has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lake Cormorant fell victim to Grenada and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Chargers, falling 17-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, Lake Cormorant hasn't been shut out since back in February.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lafayette). They put the hurt on Clarksdale with a sharp 14-5 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Commodores in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.
Levi Hamm made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Brett Williams looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February.
Back at the plate, Easton Thompson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Collin Waldrip was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.
Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clarksdale only posted an OBP of .296.
Lake Cormorant now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
