Burke Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Bridgehampton 7-6.
Tim Brogan tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dylan DeMaro, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Drucker, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Burke Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Tuckahoe won against Haldane last Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again last Thursday. The Tigers came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 7-2. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Jack Rideout spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Rocco Briante and Tyler Pian did most of the damage at the plate: Briante went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI, while Pian got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, Pian posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April. Marco Marcoccia also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Burke Catholic's record now sits at 7-0. As for Tuckahoe, their record is now 14-7.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burke Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .404. However, it's not like Tuckahoe struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burke Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Tuckahoe in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Will Burke Catholic repeat their success, or does Tuckahoe has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
