Williams Field has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Williams Field walked away with it. They blew past Boulder Creek, posting a 35-6 win at home.
Meanwhile, while Salpointe Catholic put up plenty of points on Thursday, the same can't be said for Corona del Sol. Salpointe Catholic breezed by Corona del Sol at home to the tune of 41-0. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Salpointe Catholic's 12-point performance the game before.
Mathew Avelar and Morgan Quiri were among the main playmakers for Salpointe Catholic as the former rushed for six yards and two touchdowns and the latter picked up 120 receiving yards and a touchdown. Keona Wilhite got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Salpointe Catholic's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Thomas Regina and Elijah Rushing who racked up four sacks between them.
Williams Field now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Salpointe Catholic, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 9-2 record.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Williams Field has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 205.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Salpointe Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 200 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Williams Field couldn't quite finish off Salpointe Catholic in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 and fell 36-33. Thankfully for Williams Field, Fredo Sotelo (who threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
