Payten Gary went supernova for Denbigh Baptist Christian, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Gary has scored at least a third of Denbigh Baptist Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Rylee Stewart, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Broadwater Academy still got an impressive performance from Leah Smith, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Smith hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games.
Denbigh Baptist Christian's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Broadwater Academy, they dropped their record down to 7-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Denbigh Baptist Christian has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Isle of Wight Academy: 29.3, the Minutemen: 27.1) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Broadwater Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the at 5:15 p.m. Gateway Christian is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
