Lafayette hasn't had much luck against Poquoson recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Islanders at 4:30 p.m. Lafayette has given up an average of 20.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lafayette is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 38th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against York, falling 19-0.
Lafayette saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlin Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Poquoson got the win against York on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-1. Considering the Islanders have won six games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Poquoson also got a great performance from Natalie Klochak as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Alyssa Laney was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Tinley Goodson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Poquoson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
The victory made it two in a row for Poquoson and bumps their season record up to 12-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 0-17.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lafayette has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Poquoson struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lafayette suffered a grim 22-0 defeat to Poquoson when the teams last played back in April. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
